Victorian designer, Patricia La Torre CKD Au (of OUTSIDEINSIDE Building Elements) had a stunning backdrop to work with when creating this kitchen. Her thoughtful design ensured that the layered gardens designed by a celebrated Melbourne landscape designer were well incorporated in the internal space, with a tranquil inside-out feel.

The peacefulness of this interior, combined with a cooking area designed to encourage milling with family and guests, called for a rangehood that would be beautiful, efficient and of course, silent, and the 900mm Butterfly Island Rangehood by Schweigen certainly ticked all the boxes.

The IS4140SS rangehood is striking in its appearance, and remarkable in its practical performance. Twin halogen downlights (LED optional) illuminate the cooking area while stainless steel, dishwasher safe filters thoroughly trap oils and grease.

Control switches are clearly visible and easy to use, and positioned at the front of the unit to avoid the oil build up that often causes havoc with undermounted switches. Fifteen minute delay automatic shut off timers ensure food odours continue to be removed while the cook ‘plates up’, and peace reigns by the time the guests are seated.
