How to work towards a greener home

A message from our Corporate Partner, e&s.

Design is all around us and something we engage with daily, so sustainable design is worth exploring this year. Environmental impact has been at the forefront of many consumers’ minds as properties with more sustainable products tend to attract higher demand, boost property value, and be more economical in the long term. Regulations for builds have already started changing dramatically to support this; most recently, the government’s ban on gas lines is being added to new-build homes in Victoria, meaning the way we now need to design homes is also evolving. One key area where individuals can make an impact is in the selection and usage of their home appliances.

Here at e&s, we’ve got sustainable products in every category through Kitchen, Bathroom and Laundry.

Starting with the kitchen, a great tool to look out for is the energy ratings on an appliance; the more stars, the better the energy efficiency! Something like a fridge that is on all the time can chew through electricity, but looking for a product that has higher ratings can save you money in the long term. LG’s MoodUp fridge won 2 design awards last year, including the Red Dot; it not only looks good but contains elements of sustainability by having an InstaView door for quick access and a vacation mode, so you use less energy when you’re away.

Dishwashers also have technologies to assist in a greener home, from Eco Mode or Half Load options to Auto Dosing technology, where you use the right amount of detergent, making less impact on waterways. WELS ratings are also important; newer dishwashers tend to be more efficient in using resources than their predecessors.

Induction cooktops have been trending heavily in the last 12 months as consumers make the switch. Not only do they look great and are easy to clean, but they’re more efficient than gas with running costs and time on the long-term.

In Laundry, swap to a front load washing machine instead of a top loader to save on water and energy and have more freedom with your laundry design with compact units. A dryer with Heat Pump technology will save you energy, with some dryers having a 10-star energy rating, and will be more gentle on your clothes than a traditional dryer; plus, you won’t need to vent this one outside. The perfect combo!

With Bathrooms, choosing products that stand the test of time is essential. Arcisan and Parisi offer a universal future-proof option for the in-wall body to be installed once; then, if you want to change the bathroom’s look down the track, simply change the external ‘sleeve’ and cover to match your desired design and colour scheme without removing tiles, also minimizing the waste of materials.

e&s only work with established trusted brands; that’s their brand philosophy. Their consultants are experts in Kitchen, Bathroom and Laundry, so helping customers create their dream home is something they do every day and has been the cornerstone of their business since 1962, guaranteeing us a customer for life and contributing to a more sustainable future.
