A message from our Silver Sponsor, Vauth-Sagel

Innovative storage concepts that work in almost all areas of the home – that is one of Vauth-Sagel’s objectives. The product VS SUB Comfort, created in collaboration with Rietberger Möbelwerke, perfectly exemplifies this. After the German Design Council, the juries of the UNIVERSAL DESIGN Competition 2019 and the interzum award were now equally impressed and also presented awards to the 2019 comfort system.

New award for VS SUB Comfort at the interzum 2019: within the scope of the official trade fair opening in the Theater am Tanzbrunnen, VS SUB Comfort received the “interzum award: intelligent material & design 2019”. “The internationally most important trade fair couldn’t have started better for us,” says Vauth-Sagel CEO Claus Sagel. “On top of the three other awards, this is a final accolade from the heart of the industry.”

VS SUB Comfort impressed with its innovative technology: it comes out directly towards the user when the cabinet doors are opened. VS SUB Comfort is based on clever kinematics that transfer the rotary motion of the doors in such a way that the speed at which the drawers come out is either increased or decreased at an even, gentle pace throughout until they are fully extended. The upper tray can then be pushed back in intuitively without the need for any additional action and therefore also makes it possible to effortlessly access the lower storage space level. The trays are attached to the door, which ensures that the drawer closes gently.

VS SUB Comfort: one product – four awards

This product development impressed not just one but several juries, including the jury of the UNIVERSAL DESIGN Competition, a competition for companies, start-ups and students – and therefore for everyone that designs or develops groundbreaking products, designs or services that work for all generations. In short: a competition for the cleverest solution that must also meet high design expectations. Vauth-Sagel has always addressed these two dual aspects in kitchens; the company is well-known for this approach. However, in 2019, the family-owned business decided to not only focus on the kitchen but also on other areas in the home. The goal: to bring a new dimension of comfort to the interiors of furniture that is used throughout the home through easier access to the lower areas of storage spaces. The development of VS SUB Comfort is an important step towards this. “Of course, we are delighted that the experts responded so positively. We are particularly encouraged by the Consumer Award, because it proves that we meet the consumers’ comfort and design expectations and that they have the necessary confidence in our groundbreaking solutions. Ultimately, it is the consumers who decide whether the product will really be welcomed into people’s homes,” says Claus Sagel. In 2019, the UNIVERSAL DESIGN Awards jury was chaired by Wolfgang Sattler from the Bauhaus Universität Weimar; the Consumer Award jury consisted of 100 international users from all age groups with and without impairments.

The two UNIVERSAL DESIGN and interzum awards are the latest additions to Vauth-Sagel’s recent history of success – four awards for one exceptional product – which already started at the beginning of the year with an ICONIC Award from the German Design Council.
