Queensland designer, Alexandra Trigger, took out the title of KBDi Queensland Kitchen Designer of the Year 2020 in this year’s Awards. The judging panel was so impressed with the first-time entrants submission that they also gifted her the award of the same name. In this chat with KBDi Executive Director, Royston Wilson, Alex will share the backstory of this winning project, and discuss how she came to be where she is today.

In this session, E & S Trading’s Rob Sinclair will take you through the most popular integrated fridges of 2020, and outline what all good designers should consider when specifying integrated units.

Victoria’s Glen Rundell is a chairmaker, designer, woodworker and artisan, and a passionate advocate for the art of handmade. In this session, Glen will outline the history of the American Windsor Chair, and share what he learned when he travelled to the US to train with two of America’s most highly regarded chairmakers. He’ll discuss the various styles of stools, armchairs and rockers, and introduce you to the carefully crafted ‘Australian Windsor Chair’. Glen’s passion for craftsmanship and quality is truly contagious – we promise you’ll be informed, inspired and leave with a greater appreciation for the art of handmade.

About Glen Rundell
Glen began his working life as a plumbing apprentice some thirty years ago, when tinsmithing was part of the trade. He transferred his skills to various hands-on careers before travelling to the US to learn the art of American Windsor Chairmaking. When he returned, Glen set his focus purely on the chairmaking craft, and has consistently taken commissions for truly bespoke, handcrafted chairs for lovers of fine furniture. Glen is also passionate about sharing the skills and craftsmanship of his and other trades, and founded the Lost Trades Fair to inspire future makers. Our favourite ‘Lady of Light’ is returning to KBDi to deliver a must-see session on the language of lighting. Adele Locke (MINT Lighting Design) will share her wisdom about how to best communicate with home owners and electricians when it comes to selecting and specifying luminaires. You’ll discover the difference between watts and lumens (and when it matters), learn how to have a Kelvin conversation and get all amped up about voltage. Adele will also outline the role of a lighting designer, and discuss when you should consider handing over the reins to a lighting pro.

About the Presenter

Adele Locke is a self-confessed lighting geek with a passion for well-considered, effective and inspiration lighting. Her background spans all facets of lighting, from luminaire manufacturing and bespoke lighting design to large scale commercial projects, management and architectural lighting design.

Adele is the Immediate Past President (2017) of the Illuminating Engineers Society of Australia and New Zealand, a Corporate Member of the BDAV Building Designers Association of Victoria and an Affiliate Member of KBDi.

She enjoys educating and training anyone interested in light – from architects to designers to electricians and homeowners. Adele is also often invited to be the keynote speaker for TAFE students, industry groups and associations and special interest groups, and is a regular teacher at Laneway Learning in Melbourne.

Simona’s work has earned her many well-deserved accolades over the years. This year’s KBDi entries secured the talented design professional the title of KBDi Australian Kitchen Designer of the Year. In this session, Simona will walk you through her winning project and share her wisdom, wit and inspiring story.
