Starting with a Spark | Inspirational Interiors

Aug 30, 2023 | Inspiration

Here at KBDi, we’re always inspired by the stunning work we see from our members in our annual KBDi Designer Awards program.

And after more than a decade of diving into your entries, we’ve deduced that a solid source of inspiration at the beginning of a project often equates to a very successful design.

In this feature, we’re sharing some of the ways our members start with a ‘spark’ and encourage you to explore some new sources of inspiration, too.

The Colours of Nature
Melbourne’s Britt Howard (Britt White Design) was inspired by the greys and greens of the Eucalyptus stellulata (Black Sallee) encircling her client’s High Country chalet when designing this very special bathroom.

The judges loved Britt’s combination of matt-finished terrazzo-look floors, glossy green wall tiles and warm timber tones. They commended the contrast between the concrete-coloured cabinets and the glimmering brass details and adored the overall aesthetics of this well-planned space.

The Client’s Favourite Furniture
Sydney designer, Chris Chmielowiec (Interspec Custom Joinery), used a much-loved piece of furniture in his client’s private collection to spark an outstanding kitchen design.

Inspired by the classic combination of marble, brass and delicately profiled doors, Chris created a stunning small kitchen that well and truly wowed the judges.

A Stand-out Style
Wollongong firm, Birdblack Design, went to town with their client’s favourite decorating style, creating an American Plantation-themed paradise in this award-winning Master Suite.

With its lovely layers of texture and pattern, luscious combinations of walnut and rattan and Norweigian Rose marble highlights, the space oozes charm and character.

If you’ve completed a project inspired by something special, we’d love to see it. Email Selina today and we’ll add your work to our in-house inspirational gallery.
